Legal Aid Clinic(LAC) is the place where poor people will be served legally without any cost.
The National Legal Services Authority has approved LACs to be set up in every village to resolve disputes before they reach the litigation stage recently.
According to National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) LAC will function from panchayat offices in villages and its main objective is to help solve disputes without allowing them to mature into litigation in courts.
The lawyers and para-legal workers would also provide services like preparing applications for job cards under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA). LACs will work like a single-window facility for helping people to solve their problems where the operation of law comes into the picture.
In 24th March, 2012 Bengal's first LAC has been started its journey at Uluberia II No. B.D.O. Office Campus with the presence of Honorable District Magistrate Mrs. Sanghamitra Ghosh and Honorable Judge of High Court Mr. Pinaki Chandra Ghosh.
